Our Coaches

Paul Roberts

Head Coach and Director

From a young age, Paul has always loved and been enthused by the outdoors. Having been a passionate climber for more then 20 years, his energy and psych for the sport is infectious. Paul has a real drive to improve his own performance and those he works with.

I am a big believer in the importance of quality coaching. While the basics can often be intuitive, learning and developing more advance techniques and skills can benefit from the appropriate training. I have a real passion for helping others to develop and gain their full potential, working with every client to ensure a personal plan is in place and their outcomes are achieved.

As a multi discipline climber, Paul has climbed around the world in pursuit of his passion. To date Paul has accomplished over 2500+ outdoor climbs with, Trad routes up to E7, Sport routes up to 8a+, Boulder up to V12.

To further Paul’s interest in adventure sports and coaching he has undertaken a Sport and Exercise Science degree as well as being a qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI) and Development Coach.

Paul currently holds the following awards:

*Outdoor studies and Exercise Sport Science degree (Bsc)
* Mountaineering Climbing Instructor,
* Development Coach
* Level 3 kayak coach
* UKCC level 2
* Moderate Water Endorsement Canoe
* 4 star Canoe

Paul is constantly looking to improving his own knowledge to remain at the forefront of coaching, through continued personal development.

Tori Taylor-Roberts

Coach and Director

Tori has an abundance of energy and motivation for climbing. Having been involved in delivering outdoor education since the age of 18, she has a breadth of coaching experience.

Tori is a qualified teacher, as well as holding the following:

* BSc Degree in Geography and Outdoor Education

* Rock Climbing Development Instructor

* Development Coach

* Mountain Leader (summer)

* Paddlesports Instructor

Tori is a Mountain Training Course Director for the:

* Indoor Climbing Assistant

* Climbing Wall Instructor

* Climbing Wall Development Instructor

* Rock Climbing Instructor

Tori completed her Level 2 Gym Instructor award, and continues to expand her knowledge of mental training and coaching through her own research and reading.

Tori’s main love is sport climbing.

I love how much you can physically push yourself when sport climbing. Redpointing routes at the top end of your grade is where I get most enjoyment. One of my favourite redpoint routes were Empire of the Sun 7b+ and Threadbare right 7b+. It’s like a well executed coreographed dance!

Tori is an advocate for female representation in the climbing community, and has a passion to support and engage more females.

Working in the Outdoor sector for over 16 years, I’ve seen and experienced the lack of female role models. I  want to ensure West Country Adventures offer an environment where all clients feel safe, comfortable and engaged; receiving coaching that is tailored to suit the individual needs and takes into considerations key differences with their male counterparts.

Rhuben

Mascot

Rhuben was Devon born and bred. He has been with us from the start, and joins us on most outdoor courses, where suitable.

He’s a lover of cheese, and enjoys hanging out at the crag.

Now he’s a bit older and wiser, he loves shorter walk-ins, crags with shade and in the woods.

His favourite crags are Ansteys Cove because he gets to go swimming and Bovey Woods (when the ants are not out).

I love greeting everyone at the top of the boulders and congratulating them on their sends
