ROCK CLIMBING

Women rock south west events

Working in partnership with Adelong, another local like-minded company, we have designed the Women Rock Southwest Climbing events. Aiming to bring anyone who identifies as a women from across the UK together, to develop and support both your traditional and sport climbing journey.

The event aims to introduce women to lead climbing outdoors, as well as support intermediate climbers who are looking to continue developing their skills, wanting to gain more confidence, and want to become more independent, all-round climbers.

This event will allow you to climb in a supportive and encouraging environment alongside other women; local MCI holder Charlie, West Country Adventure Coach and RCDI holder Tori, as well as other local female climbing instructors, will be making sure you get the most out of your weekend, using local crags around the south west.

So whether you are wanting some input ahead of your Mountain Training RCI course, want to ask questions and take the time you want without pressures from others, or ready to take those early steps into your leading career, this weekend could help you achieve your aims.

Attended the women’s introduction to lead weekend and loved it! Tori was so informative, supportive and calm. We learned how to do everything safely and efficiently, and I’m now so excited to put everything into practice. Thank you so much. Izzy Stanesby, Women’s South West Rock Weekend, June 2021

women’s winter coaching series

It’s no surprise to know that participation in sport declines in the colder, darker autumn and winter months. Sport England research suggests it is down to a range of key reasons: Environmental barriers: Too cold, wet and dark for outdoor activities. Motivational barriers: “Motivational barriers are most likely to affect those who exercise indoors or alone”. Sport England.

One of the key strategies suggested to reducing the risk of future opt out is booking activity in advance, preparing the night before, or making a financial or social commitment.

Throughout Autumn and Spring, we will be starting our Women’s Winter Coaching on Wednesday and Thursday nights, based at Plymouth Life Centre Climbing Wall between 8pm and 9.30pm.

The booking is for a 3-week block.

As well as forming a social group, this will support development, progression and encouraging you to commit to staying active.

Sessions are run by Tori (qualified climbing coach and teacher). We will create a supportive space for you to climb, providing technical and movement coaching to ensure you not only have fun, but also improve your skills and confidence.

The sessions will include bouldering and roped climbing. All harnesses are provided and belaying taught if you do not currently access roped climbing.

Cost: The 3-week block cost just £65 and includes wall entry and harnesses.
